Yes, the rumors are correct. Google has been developing its own proprietary processor for the Pixel 6 series. The codename was Whitechapel, and it was reported to be the GS101 (Google Silicon) chipset. Surprisingly, the tech behemoth has finally revealed the identity of its first mobile CPU, which will be known as Google Tensor. It will be available in the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro later this autumn, providing much-needed AI computational power to Google's premium phones.
If you haven't been living under a rock, you're aware that Google's Pixel phones have previously been powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. The Snapdragon 765G processor was used in last year's Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G. This is no longer the case with the Pixel 6 series. Google is now following in the footsteps of Apple and Samsung by including its own Tensor processor in its flagship smartphone. It will allow the firm to provide you with a more powerful experience as well as perhaps prolonged Android update support.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated in an official tweet that work on the Tensor custom SoC (system-on-a-chip) began nearly 4 years ago. He even showed us the chipset for the first time, along with a paperclip for size comparison. The tweet is shown below.
So excited to share our new custom Google Tensor chip, which has been 4 yrs in the making (📎 for scale)! Tensor builds off of our 2 decades of computing experience and it’s our biggest innovation in Pixel to date. Will be on Pixel 6 + Pixel 6 Pro in fall. https://t.co/N95X6gFxLf pic.twitter.com/wHiEJRHJwy

I'm sure many of you are curious about the Google Tensor chipset's specs. Well, the business isn't ready to reveal the CPU and GPU specifications, or who is manufacturing the chipset, just yet. But one thing is certain: the firm is putting a lot of emphasis on the AI capabilities of its forthcoming chipset.
Google has previously used the term "Tensor" to refer to their AI and machine learning-powered hardware. It is currently the name of the company's first mobile CPU. As a result, it should come as no surprise that the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will have several new AI functions.
Rick Osterloh, SVP of Devices and Services at Google, noted in the official blog post, "The team that built our silicon wanted to make Pixel even more powerful." With Tensor, for example, we considered every component of the chip and tailored it to run Google's computational photography models.” This includes improved Live HDR during video capture, quicker on-device Live Captions, and more.
So, Google is finally taking its mobile hardware seriously. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, which will be available later this autumn, will be the first Pixel handsets to include the Google Tensor chipset. It will be fascinating to see how it compares to the market's top Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets. We still don't know much about this chipset, but we should find out in the next few days. So keep tuned for further details.
