Using Soundmojis on Facebook Messenger: A Step-by-Step Guide (2021)

Facebook is always developing new features to improve the primary messaging experience for its users. Whether it's the Facebook Messenger-Instagram Direct Messaging connection, Messenger Rooms, Secret Chats, or the recently introduced Soundmojis, there's something for everyone. With that stated, let's not spend any more time and learn everything there is to know about Soundmojis.

What exactly are Soundmojis (also known as Sound Emojis)?

Soundmojis was first introduced by Facebook in July of this year to commemorate World Emoji Day. Based on the nature of the emojis, these sound-based emoticons play related sound effects or popular musical quips. When you send a drum emoji to a buddy, Messenger will play the matching sound in the chat window, accompanied by an animated emoji.

These sound emojis span from simple noises like clapping or a drumroll to sections of popular pop songs like Ariana Grande's "thank you, next" and Cardi B's "WAP." Audio from some of your favorite TV shows and movies, such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Fast & Furious 9, is included in the Soundmojis.

The chicken bowl emoji, for example, plays WAP's "Macaroni in a pot," and the red stop emoji plays Billie Eilish's "Stop, what the hell are you talking about?" from her hit song "Therefore I am."

Emojis and other add-ons such as GIFs have previously been primarily about aesthetics. This is the first time, though, that Facebook has included audio in the mix. Soundmojis is available on both Android and iOS versions of Messenger. There are now about 23 Soundmojis accessible to share in Messenger chats. Facebook may, however, add to the list in the coming months.
