While Windows 11 will be available for compatible PCs and laptops later this year, it may also be installed on Macs without Boot Camp. Parallels 17, the next-generation Windows emulator, was just released, allowing Mac users (even those with M1 Macs and macOS Monterey) to run Windows 11 on their machines.

Parallels 17 allows you to run Windows 11 on Macs.

Parallels Desktop, for those who are unfamiliar, is a hardware virtualization program for Macs that allows users to run Windows on macOS workstations. The program is compatible with both Intel and M1 Macs and can run Windows 11 previews. There is, however, a catch for individuals who use the program on Arm-based devices.

So, for M1 Mac users, the catch is that Parallels will only allow them to simulate Windows on Arm-based computers. This effectively implies that M1 Mac users will be restricted to the Windows on Arm version, which is notoriously unreliable. So, if you wish to run Windows on Arm on your M1 Macs, we advise you to proceed with care because the x86 emulation of Windows on Arm has proven erratic, and the x64 emulation still needs substantial development.

While M1 users must cope with the aforementioned difficulties, they will benefit from certain advantages if they come from Parallels 16. Parallels 17 will provide M1 customers with 28 percent higher DirectX 11 performance and up to 33 percent quicker boot times for Windows 10 on Arm Insider Preview VMs, according to the firm. Aside from this, Parallels claims that Windows VMs on both Intel and M1 Macs will have 25% better 2D graphics performance and up to 6 times faster OpenGL performance.

Parallels 17 also includes various internal enhancements. For example, it is now universal software and supports macOS Monterey. Parallels 17 will be able to run on macOS 12 computers and construct virtual machines as a result of this.
