Last year, Google stated that it will shut down Google Play Music and replace it with YouTube Music. However, the Mountain View behemoth was chastised for failing to release a YouTube Music app for its Wear OS wristwatch platform. It even has a YouTube Music app for Apple's watchOS operating system. With a few changes, a developer was able to adapt the YouTube Music Android software to Wear OS 2.0.

It's worth noting that, despite Google's subsequent release of the YouTube Music app for Wear OS, it's only compatible with Wear OS 3.0, which is presently only available on Samsung's Galaxy Watch 4 series. As a result, the YouTube Music app was not available on the majority of Wear OS 2.0 smartwatches.

Alexandru Pop, a Romanian software developer, attempted to convert the Android version of the YouTube Music app to Wear OS 2.0, citing this serious difficulty for Wear OS 2.0 users. What's more, guess what? He was a winner. Pop reduced the size of the YouTube Music app for smartphones to match the size of a wristwatch app. Even though it allows users to play and control music on YouTube Music, the user interface is still apparently unoptimized.

The software was also ported using a modified version of the YouTube Music app called YouTube Music Vanced. On the Wear OS version of the app, it was to allow users to sign in with their Google accounts. Because the original YouTube Music app does not enable sign-ins when or if it has been tampered with, it was a need. As a result, there is still a security concern with the Wear OS version of the YouTube Music app.

If you don't want to wait for Google to create an official YouTube Music app for Wear OS 2.0, you may download the YouTube Music app for your Wear OS 2.0 wristwatch. You can find step-by-step instructions for installing the app in Alexandru's XDA forum.
